الخبرة
I have always been a hard worker; I graduated high school with honors and was the class valedictorian. I got into medical school at the University of Jordan despite huge competition and graduated in 2019 with a very good GPA. After which, I chose to spend my internship in the hardest program in my country where I eased into the responsibilities of a doctor. A year later, I enrolled into the top internal medicine residency program in the top hospital in my country, Jordan University hospital. I spent 2 years working endless hours with grueling work circumstances that coincided with COVID-19 pandemic and since then I have finished part one of the internal Medicine Jordanian Board certification. It would be surprising that I had to cut my journey there short, nonetheless, I have gained tremendous knowledge and skills along the way.
Being in the medical field for 9 years and working for the past 3 years has certainly made me develop and nurture skills necessary to being a good doctor. A strong medical background is the foundation of good medical practice, and I am constantly updating my knowledge by reading, taking courses, and taking up interest in research. I have also learned a great deal of medical procedures and make it an effort to perfect my techniques in each one. On top of that, during my work in residency I have polished the skills essential for a great patient-doctor relationship, including intuitive listening and communication, holistic patient care and appreciating what’s beyond the physical illness. I am truly invested in caring for a patient, in every way I can.
I also believe teamwork makes the dreamwork, and patient care can only be as great as the team makes it. Having a good relationship with my colleagues, the nurses and any other medical personnel is a top priority in my workplace. Regarding my colleagues, I have a sharp ear, excellent communication skills and empathy that I always use to offer help and support. I also specifically enjoy teaching my younger colleagues throughout my workday and try my best to relay information that I think is necessary and worthwhile, and so far, the feedback has been excellent!
Volunteering and giving back has also been very important to me, and I have done so through participating in various events to provide medical care, free of charge to less privileged sectors of society, especially in refugee camps. As well as being part of associations during med school including IFMSA, MedTeam and In-Arabic initiative, which aimed to enrich public health and health-oriented knowledge in my community. My proudest participation would have been teaching BLS to the community over a 5 hour course in the Jordanian Paramedics society.
There has always been the saying that “A doctor never stops learning”, and after my experience in the medical world of a doctor, that saying proved to be true. Even though I would like to think of myself as a competent doctor, I also realize that I am a very young one and I have a long way to go regarding my career development. These insights are exactly why I think I would be perfect for this program; they convey and eagerness and a determination to always fulfil my duties and become better at my job.
