Samer Rantisi

Samer Rantisi graduated with honors from Heriot-Watt University, The University of Edinburgh, and the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies in the United Kingdom in 2002. In 1997, he received his bachelor's degree in architectural engineering from Birzeit University in Ramallah, Palestine. A registered architect in Palestine and Jordan, his professional practice focuses on architectural and urban conservation of historic districts, as well as post-war urban reconstruction. Promotes and conducts research on various aspects of architectural conservation, cultural heritage, and community development, with a focus on the use of traditional building materials and the impact of people and environmental conditions on traditional architecture. Has over 25 years of experience and is currently working as a freelance architect and urban designer. Previously worked in the private sector, at the UNRWA, United Nations Technical Office Design and Planning Unit in Jerusalem, and then at the Taawon Welfare Association. In December 2004, he shared the Aga Khan Award for Architecture with a team from the Jerusalem Technical Office.
